MESSAGE FROM BODIE:
MAKE A DIFFERENCE: JOIN THE CHOIR
As I pause to look at the calendar, I see that March is almost here, and the reality of this new year speeding by me becomes all the more apparent. All of this speeding reminds me of a funny story . . .
The police officer walked back to the car he had just stopped as the young driver rolled down his window. In a slightly facetious tone, the officer remarked, "Son, I've been waiting for you all day." As the officer pulled out his pad, the young man replied in witty candor, "Well, I got here as fast as I could."
Did I say "funny story"? Maybe I meant mildly cute. Nevertheless, as we speed through life, as the days and months pass us by, it is so easy to put off until tomorrow what we should enjoy today. Have you ever thought about taking art lessons, learning a new language . . . or even SINGING IN THE CHOIR? You might say, "Oh, one day I'd like to do that." Another might comment, "That's on my bucket list, but I'll hold off for now."
I want to suggest we adopt a new way of thinking. Embrace the spirit of carpe diem, and "Seize the day!" Though traveling around the world or flying a helicopter or doing something else extraordinary might be difficult to accomplish, I'd like to suggest that singing in our Chancel Choir is an attainable goal.
"But I don't have a great voice." "I don't know how to read music." "I didn't even sing in the high school choir." You might be surprised to know that a large percentage of our present choir membership has individually expressed these same concerns. It's pretty amazing how quickly one can become a strong team player, especially in a warm, friendly, supportive environment like ours. (And complimentary voice lessons are even offered to those desiring a stronger edge.)
On your drive to work this week, as you sing along with the radio, take a moment to consider becoming involved in our congregation's dynamic Music Ministry. Make a lasting impression on the worship life of our community. Come experience how sharing in cultivated song can be meaningful and enriching. Become a part of a fun group of people who look forward to welcoming you. (And as you 'jam out' to the radio with your new spirit of carpe diem, you might keep an eye on your speed . . . just a friendly suggestion.)
